Learning Method:

  • The PDDP program is more of a self-guided learning style.

  • You are required to read the notes and materials given, complete the follow-up assignments on your own, send in your questions prior to your 1 hour webinar meeting (if required) and be involved in live discussion via the internet.

  • Once you have completed the course, you will receive a certificate of completion

Course Description:

The goals of this seminar are to provide the participants with the essential knowledge, skills, and techniques to plan simple and complicated projects and to establish realistic schedules using both manual and automated scheduling and control tools. Basic scheduling tools and techniques are presented; logic diagrams, precedence networks (PDM), and bar chart tools are outlined; various duration estimation methods are introduced; the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) approach is adopted as the basis for scheduling, the Critical Path Method (CPM) and float calculations are demonstrated; resource estimation, allocation, and leveling methods are presented; schedule updating techniques, schedule compression methods, and the best-in practice project scheduling techniques to avoid and prepare delay claims are introduced; project control using the concept of earned value analysis (EVA) is explained; and various scheduling capabilities of MS Project and/or SureTrak 3.0 scheduling software applications are demonstrated to build an integrated realistic schedule using a case study approach. Lots of questions and training exercises are included. The basic objective of the seminar is to combine scheduling fundamentals with software application to enable the participants to plan and control their projects effectively.

The PDDP Distance Education program works as follows:

  • Once you register for this course, you will be sent a login username and password for our online distance website.

  • You will receive the course notes in hard copy through the online website, you will receive a set of notes each week covering the course material.

  • A one hour video-conference session will be conducted by your instructor each week (if required). The objective of this session is to assist in solving the assignments, as well as answer student questions that should be sent to instructor early enough prior to the meeting time. In addition with being able to communicate with the instructor, you will also be able to communicate with other students in the same class and watch their questions being answered as well. (A high speed internet connection is strongly recommended for this feature).

  • Each set of exercises can be completed and submitted by the indicated date and your completed exercise will be marked online and and returned by your instructor.

  • To gain the most from your course, it is highly recommended that you participate fully in all discussions and exercises. Please remember that each course has a form of quiz or exercise at the end to test your understanding of the material. You will be informed of these dates when you receive the course schedule.

Dr. Elbarkouky is an expert in project and performance management and control. He has more than 17 years of practical experience in his field of practice. He managed and controlled a large number of complex projects in Canada, the U.S., Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He has extensive experience of oil and gas, power plants, infrastructure, and building construction projects. Dr. Elbarkouky has a Ph.D. in construction engineering and management from the University of Alberta. He is also a Professional Engineer of APEGA and a Project Management Professional (PMP) of the PMI.   • Compression of project schedules and crashing, and applying what if scenarios using manual and software applications.
  • Tips and tricks in scheduling, making your schedule more efficient, effective communications and reporting using software applications
  • Dealing with delay claims and using the software application in performing time-impact analysis.
  • Hands-on training for MS Project scheduling software package using a case study approach.
