Description

Wastewater treatment and collection systems are a major expenditure of public funds. Sanitary systems are essential to protecting the public health and welfare in all areas of concen¬trated population and development. Sanitary sewers perform the vitally needed functions of collecting wastewaters and conveying them to points of treatment and disposal.

The various stages of design and construction of sanitary sewer pro¬jects require an understanding of the objectives of each stage of the project and of the responsibilities and interests of the parties involved.

This 2-day workshop is intended for those who require better understanding of sanitary sewer drainage systems design. The participant will be expected to complete a sanitary sewer water drainage system design under the instructor’s guidance by using first principle methods and/or design aids.

Objective

To understand the fundamentals of sanitary water system design, to develop skills to perform advanced design and analyses of sanitary sewer drainage systems as well as to design additions or replacements for existing systems.

After Attending This Workshop You Will Be Able To:

  • Understand fundamentals of sanitary water sewer system design and application
  • Design a new sewer system
  • Back an analysis of existing systems for any possible problems
  • Learn how to use the commercial package Sewer CAD and flow Master
  • Discover the numerous issues to consider when planning sewer water drainage systems at a given site
  • Learn to design sanitary sewer water drainage systems to meet given planning objectives

Materials Required

  • Standard engineering calculator with scientific functions
  • Laptop for software training (if available)

Special Features

You will receive comprehensive course notes with all design charts, graphs and data that will serve as reference for future use. You will receive training on one of the top commercial software available in the market for the design of sanitary sewer systems (Sewer CAD and Flow Master).

You will receive a limited edition version (academic version) of the CAD design software package and a reference book on Engineering Hydraulics application.

Target Audience

Municipal, city, civil project, consulting and works engineers; public works directors, engineering field managers, wastewater system managers; safety inspectors, procurement officers, superintendents of operations, EITs; technicians and technologists.

Sewer construction contractors and other individuals who need a basic understanding of sanitary sewer and stormwater drainage system design, maintenance and rehabilitation and are currently employed in the wastewater management field.

The PDDP Distance Education program works as follows:

  • Once you register for this course, you will be sent a login username and password for our online distance website.

  • You will receive the course notes in hard copy through the online website, you will receive a set of notes each week covering the course material.

  • A one hour video-conference session will be conducted by your instructor each week (if required). The objective of this session is to assist in solving the assignments, as well as answer student questions that should be sent to instructor early enough prior to the meeting time. In addition with being able to communicate with the instructor, you will also be able to communicate with other students in the same class and watch their questions being answered as well. (A high speed internet connection is strongly recommended for this feature).

  • Each set of exercises can be completed and submitted by the indicated date and your completed exercise will be marked online and and returned by your instructor.

  • To gain the most from your course, it is highly recommended that you participate fully in all discussions and exercises. Please remember that each course has a form of quiz or exercise at the end to test your understanding of the material. You will be informed of these dates when you receive the course schedule.

*Course commencement date is subject to instructor availability.
