Description:

This course intends to provide students with practical and effective means of analyzing a wide range of structural forms. This course will develop the student's ability to solve common structural analysis problems using strength of materials and approximate methods. The focus is on simple hand techniques that will provide the student with the ability to perform analyses for preliminary and conceptual design and to verify the results of direct stiffness and finite element models.

Target Audience:

It is most suitable for students who already have a good grasp of structural engineering fundamentals such as structural mechanics, strength of materials, second or third year university level differential equations, etc. In addition, students must already have some basic knowledge of structural designs using different structural materials. The basic knowledge may have been acquired through undergraduate civil engineering courses, or from a design office, or both.

Individuals wishing to take a few courses with the purpose of gaining or updating their knowledge in specific areas.
