Steam Power Plants and Combined Cycle Plants (1.2 CEUs)

Course Code: MEC057
Date: 24 Jun - 25 Jun 2021
Location:

Education @ Your Desk. A Live Webinar Class means that you will attend the class via the web using your computer. There are scheduled breaks for coffee and lunch. You use a microphone, headset, or your phone and are able to interact with the instructor and other students while following notes while watching the presentation slides online just as you would in a live classroom. Notes are posted online. For an extra cost a hard copy can be requested.

The virtual classroom is becoming more and more popular, and we have a lot of experience teaching in this format. The only real difference between a live in-class and live via webinar is where you sit and what you look at. You can learn from the comfort of your own home or office. You pay less for the live webinar format than you would for the in-class format, and you do not have to travel to another city to attend the class. Please contact us at [email protected] for Special Group & Corporate Rates for one or more participants.

A certificate of completed Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be granted at the end of this course. Continuing Education Unit (CEU)
Daily Schedule:
8:00am - Registration and coffee (1st day only)
8:30am - Session begins
4:30pm - Adjournment
Breakfast, two refreshment breaks and lunch are provided daily.

Description
This seminar will cover all aspects of steam power plants and combined cycle plants (gas turbines operating in conjunction with a steam power generating plant). This seminar will cover in detail all the components of these types of power plants such as: steam turbines, economizers, boilers, superheaters, reheaters, heat recovery steam generators, deaerators, feedwater heaters, boiler feed pumps, condensers, gas turbines, lubricating systems, instrumentation, and control systems. The design, selection considerations, operation, maintenance, pay-back period, economics of steam power plants and combined cycles, as well as, emission limits, reliability, monitoring and governing systems are also covered in detail.  This seminar will also provide up-dated information in respect to all the significant improvements that have been made to steam power plants and combined cycles plants during the last two decades.

Objective
This seminar will illustrate through sophisticated computer simulation how combined cycle plants perform under steady-state and transient conditions. In addition, the delegates will learn how to use the computer simulation program which provides the following benefits:

  • Allow the operator to extend the combined cycle plant operating period by avoiding unnecessary outages and maintenance activities.
  • Determination of essential combined cycle maintenance activities to reduce the duration of outages.
  • Profit optimization of combined cycle plants.
  • Minimization of the environmental emissions of combined cycle plants.

Target Audience

  • Engineers of all disciplines
  • Managers
  • Technicians
  • Maintenance personnel
  • Other technical individuals

Learning Outcomes

  • Combined Cycle Plant Computer simulation: Gain an understanding of computer simulation of combined cycle plants.
  • Steam Power Plant and Combined Cycle Plant Components and Systems: Learn about all components and subsystems of the various types of steam power plants and combined cycle plants.
  • Steam Power Plant and Combined Cycle Plant Economics: Examine the advantages, applications, performance and economics of steam power plants and combined cycle plants.
  • Steam Power Plant and Combined Cycle Plant Equipment: Learn about various steam power plant and combined cycle plant equipment including:  steam and gas turbines, boilers, superheaters, heat recovery steam generators, governing systems, deaerators, and feed water heaters.
  • Steam Power Plant and Combined Cycle Plant Maintenance: Learn all the maintenance activities required for steam power plants and combined cycle plants to minimize their operating cost and maximize their efficiency, reliability, and longevity.
  • Steam Power Plant and Combined Cycle Plant Environmental Emissions: Learn about the monitoring and control of environmental emissions from steam power plants and combined cycle plants.
  • Steam Power Plant and Combined Cycle Plant Instrumentation and Control Systems: Learn about the latest instrumentation and control systems of steam power plants and combined cycles plants.
  • Steam Power Plant and Combined Cycle Plant Reliability and Testing: Increase your knowledge of steam power plant and combined cycle plant predictive and preventive maintenance, reliability and testing.

  • Steam Power Plant and Combined Cycle Plant Profitability: Learn about the reliability, life cycle cost, profitability, refurbishment, and life extension methods for all types of steam power plants and combined cycle plants.

Training Methodology
The instructor relies on a highly interactive training method to enhance the learning process.  This method ensures that all the delegates gain a complete understanding of all the topics covered.  The training environment is highly stimulating, challenging, and effective because the participants will learn by case studies which will allow them to apply the material taught to their own organization.

Special Feature
Each delegate will receive a digital copy of the following materials written by the instructor:

  • “POWER GENERATION HANDBOOK - 2nd edition” published by McGraw-Hill in 2011 (800 pages)
  • Practical manual (300 pages)
