Course Code: MEC071d
Date: -
Location: This is a Professional Development Distance Program course.
These are open to a start date after you register, not scheduled for a specific date.

A certificate of completed Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be granted at the end of this course. Continuing Education Unit (CEU)
Introduction
This seminar will cover all aspects of the most efficient power plants including ultra supercritical steam power plants, integrated gasification combined cycles, wind and solar power generating plants. The ultra supercritical steam power plants have achieved a net electrical efficiency of 50%. The integrated gasification combined cycle power plants have achieved a net electrical efficiency of 60%. This efficiency is almost double the efficiency of conventional power plants. The integrated gasification combined cycle power plants can also burn any type of gas, liquid, or solid fuel including natural gas, heavy fuels, orimulsion, bunker c, biomass, and coal. They are capable of converting these fuels into a synthetic gas before burning the fuel. Their environmental emissions are negligible. They also have high reliability and low operation and maintenance cost.

This seminar will cover in detail all the components of ultra supercritical steam power plants, integrated gasification combined cycles, wind and solar power generating plants such as: wind, gas and steam turbines, heat recovery steam generators, deaerators, condensers, lubricating systems, instrumentation, control systems, solar panels, inverters, transformers, and generators. The design, selection considerations, operation, maintenance, pay-back period, economics of these power plants will be covered in detail. This seminar will also provide in-depth coverage of the emission limits, reliability, economics, monitoring and governing systems of ultra supercritical power plants, integrated gasification combined cycles, wind and solar power generating plants. This seminar will cover updated information in respect to all the significant improvements that have been made to these power generating plants during the last two decades.

This seminar will illustrate through sophisticated computer simulation how modern power plants perform under steady-state and transient conditions. In addition, the delegates will learn how to use the computer simulation program which provides the following benefits:
  • Allow the operator to extend the plant operating period by avoiding unnecessary outages and maintenance activities.
  • Determination of essential plant maintenance activities to reduce the duration of outages.
  • Profit optimization of power plants.
  • Minimization of the environmental emissions from power plants.

Training Methodology
The instructor relies on a highly interactive training method to enhance the learning process. This method ensures that all the delegates gain a complete understanding of all the topics covered. The training environment is highly stimulating, challenging, and effective because the participants will learn by case studies which will allow them to apply the material taught to their own organization.

Special Features
Each delegate will receive an excerpt, in digital form, of the relevant chapters from the Manual listed below authored by the instructor:

1. “POWER PLANT EQUIPMENT OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE” published by McGraw-Hill in 2012 (800 pages)

2. “POWER GENERATION HANDBOOK - 2nd edition” published by McGraw-Hill in 2011 (800 pages)

3. POWER GENERATION MANUAL (includes practical information about power generation - 150 pages)
