This course is divided into six sessions. Each session will be 3 hours in duration. The sessions will be held on December 13, 14, 16, 17 , 20 & 21.

Eighty percent of a municipality’s problems are caused by twenty percent of its sanitary sewers and storm water drainage systems. The best way to avoid the majority of future problems is to pay greater attention to them during the design phase. This 3-day workshop is intended for those who require better understanding of sanitary sewer and stormwater drainage systems design. The participant will be expected to complete a sanitary sewer and storm water drainage system design under instructor guidance by using first principle methods and/or design aids.
This course has been designed to enlighten anyone who is not a civil engineer with the basics of Municipal Engineering Design. There is no need for a civil engineering background as the civil engineering concepts will not be introduced in depth.
This course deals with basic aspects of three areas: Sanitary Sewer Design, Storm Water Design and Water Supply Systems. These include: the importance of these systems in municipalities, the geological and geotechnical aspects of the ground conditions, simple estimation of Sanitary and Storm Systems loads, and definition of peaking factors. The population’s estimation methods   with respect to Water supply systems are also introduced.
To understand the basics of sanitary, storm water and water supply systems design, to develop skills to understand and back analyze these systems for better performance understanding as to possibly suggest additions or replacements for existing systems.
The main objective of this workshop is to enable participants to participate efficiently in municipal systems evaluation and analyses.  After completing the course participants should be able to understand the design of Sanitary sewer, Storm Sewer and Water supply  and effectively contribute to their understanding of construction procedures.  The course philosophy is to improve the participant’s knowledge about these systems. The information is supplied in a simple and systematic way, discussing topics where current knowledge is lacking and more understanding is needed.

Mechanical  engineers, Electrical  engineers; public works and construction department employees of federal, provincial and municipal governments and engineers responsible for large industrial, commercial or institutional facilities who must deal with different types of municipal systems; management staff and project managers.
Municipal engineers; public works directors; city engineers; superintendents of operations; wastewater system managers; safety inspectors and procurement officers from municipalities; consulting engineers; technicians and technologists; sewer construction contractors and other individuals who need a basic understanding of sanitary sewer , stormwater drainage and water supply systems design and are currently employed in the wastewater management field.
Civil engineering technicians, technologists; junior civil engineers and civil engineers of all levels who are looking to refresh their memory and gain a better understanding of Municipal Design aspects.
The course will be of interest to a wide range of practising engineers, mangers and administration staff at different stages in their careers. Familiarisation with civil engineering aspects is not required.

You will receive comprehensive course notes with all design charts, graphs and data that will serve as reference for future use. You will receive training on three of the top commercial software available in the market for the design of sanitary and storm sewer systems (Storm CAD, Sewer CAD and Water Cad)
You will receive a limited edition version (academic version) of the CAD design software package and a reference book on Engineering Hydraulics application).

Dr. Gamal Abdel Aziz

Dr. Gamal Abdelaziz, P.Eng, MSc. has a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.
Currently he is the managing director of SAGA Engineering, Edmonton, AB, Canada. Former adjunct professor at Ryerson university, Toronto, Ontario. He has over 32 years of experience in geotechnical and structural engineering, foundation design, teaching, research and consulting in Canada and overseas.
His current duties review and finalize the design of water systems, pump stations, water supply, sanitary and storm sewer systems. He is teaching water resources courses for last 15 years. He designed and delivered more than 50 courses on water resources, and they are very well received by practicing engineers in Canada and globally.
Dr. Abdelaziz is a former adjunct professor at University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada, visiting professor at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada and part time professor at Seneca College, Toronto, Canada.
Dr. Abdelaziz is specialized in numerical modeling for solving sophisticated geotechnical engineering problems with respect to pile foundation and the linear and nonlinear analysis of soil-structure interaction. He designed charts to predict pressures acting on tunnels, and developed analytical model for pile bearing capacity prediction.
Dr. Abdelaziz authored a number of technical papers and delivered numerous internal and external workshops on various geotechnical and Municipal engineering topics. Dr. Abdelaziz has been involved in a number of projects in Canada and overseas, such as tunneling, silos, buildings, retaining structures, siphons, irrigation networks and many other civil engineering projects in terms of design and construction.
Dr. Abdelaziz is a member in different professional societies such as APEGGA, PEO, CGS, CDA, TAC and ABPA. He is also a reviewer for the Canadian Geotechnical Journal.
