Duration

This course is approximately 3 weeks in duration.

Description
Variable speed drives (VSD’s) have become an essential part of our life today. They are used in pumps, fans, compressors, heat pumps in homes, and process lines in industry. This course is a MUST for anyone who is involved in the selection, applications, or maintenance of motors and variable speed drives. This course provides the latest in technology. It covers how modern motors and variable speed drives operate and the various options available. It also provides guidelines and rules that must be followed for a successful application. All maintenance issues are covered in detail.

DC drives are quickly being replaced by AC Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) inverters powering AC induction motors due to lower maintenance requirements. These new PWM drives have many more application guidelines that must be strictly followed to avoid disastrous results. Participants are quickly led through the basic principles involved in PWM inverters so that the technical background is well understood. The main part of the course concentrates on many guidelines and requirements that must be followed for a successful application.

There is also a section on how to select from the many options that you will see in the literature what they will do (or not do), and why you might want them. A section on common problems and troubleshooting is also very helpful for anyone who must diagnose or fix any of the problems that might occur.

Who Should Attend

  • Manufacturing, plant engineering and purchasing personnel
  • Manufacturing plant maintenance personnel
  • Consulting engineers
  • Drives and Motor Designers and Manufacturers
  • Electrical Technicians which have to maintain the setup the Electrical Drives
