Description

This course is designed to develop a basic understanding of mechanical vibrations, vibration measurement and vibration analysis. The participants will understand the common terms and terminology related to vibrations, will be able to participate meaningfully in discussions related to vibrations in different machines and equipment, and will be able to relate the signature vibration signals to possible causes of (high) vibrations. This course provides a solid foundation for those aspiring to acquire a higher degree of proficiency in vibration analysis as a diagnostic tool.

Objective
The course objective is to:
  • Learn the basics of mechanical vibrations,

  • Learn the fundamentals of vibration measurement and analysis,

  • Get acquainted with signature vibrations related to different machines faults, and

  • Have an introductory knowledge of International Standards governing vibration measurements, vibration analysis.

Target Audience
This course is intended for engineers, supervisors, technical professionals in general industry, who are dealing with rotary machines and using vibrations analysis as a diagnostic tool. These professionals may be engaged in:
  • Inspection and testing of machines,

  • Operations and maintenance,

  • Troubleshooting and root-cause analysis,

  • Condition monitoring,

  • Plant and equipment reliability and asset management.

Level of Course
This is a basic level course. It covers the fundamental concepts. It is designed for beginners as well as for middle level professionals who want to revisit the vibrations related literature and details after some time. No prerequisites as such are necessary for this course except for basic engineering knowledge. The course develops the concepts ab-initio and therefore is suitable for a wide range of professionals.

Learning Objectives
