Duration:

This course is approximately 4-8 weeks in duration.

Learning Method:

The PDDP program is more of a self-guided learning style.
You are required to read the notes and materials given, complete the follow-up assignments on your own, send in your questions prior to your 1 hour webinar meeting (if required) and be involved in live discussion via the internet.
Once you have completed the course, you will receive a certificate of completion

Description
This course will closely follow the project stages. It will focus on the CSA/CCME phased approach and various provincial guidelines for management of contaminated sites as well as remediation and site closure.

Objective
To provide participants with in-depth knowledge of site assessment and remediation methodologies.

Who Should Attend
Environmental managers and engineers, technologists, environmental scientists, geologists, regulatory personnel, compliance officers and auditors.

Everybody can participate in the course and learn about ESA. However if the intention of these candidates is to use this course as a way to get hired and perform ESA, two provinces of Ontario and Alberta have decided to minimize the practitioners of this field and limit them to P.GEO and P.Eng certified experts. Any engineer or any practitioner that is qualified to become P.Eng or Geotech certified can also practice ESA as long as they are supervised by a P.ENG or P.GEO. In other provinces some related science major graduates still can practice ESA.

The PDDP Distance Education program works as follows:

Once you register for this course, you will be sent a login username and password for our online distance website.

You will receive the course notes in hard copy through the online website, you will receive a set of notes each week covering the course material.
A one hour video-conference session will be conducted by your instructor each week (if required). The objective of this session is to assist in solving the assignments, as well as answer student questions that should be sent to instructor early enough prior to the meeting time. In addition with being able to communicate with the instructor, you will also be able to communicate with other students in the same class and watch their questions being answered as well. (A high speed internet connection is strongly recommended for this feature).
Each set of exercises can be completed and submitted by the indicated date and your completed exercise will be marked online and and returned by your instructor.
To gain the most from your course, it is highly recommended that you participate fully in all discussions and exercises. Please remember that each course has a form of quiz or exercise at the end to test your understanding of the material. You will be informed of these dates when you receive the course schedule.

Katy Modaressi

Katy Modaressi, Ph.D., P.Eng. Dr. Katy Modaressi is a senior process engineer, certified professional engineer and certified project manager with Associated engineering (Ont). She has more than 16 years of work experience on different areas of environmental engineering. She obtained her masters degree in Environmental Engineering and her PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Windsor. She also completed her Post Doctoral Fellow (PDF) at the University of Windsor, working on a novel technique for the soil remediation with particular work on the removal of refinery waste.

Her Ph.D thesis work was in the area of process modeling for advanced oxidation treatment for emerging chemicals, with specific research topic of treatment, removal and process modeling of Bisphenol A, using advanced oxidation techniques. Her Master thesis was on the process optimization of textile industry wastewater treatment, for which she used her pilot plant results to optimize the existing wastewater treatment facility.

She authored/coauthored more than 19 journal and conference papers, abstracts and magazine articles along with 7 journal papers in preparation or already submitted.

She also has extensive hands on experience in her field. From designing water and wastewater treatment plants to optimizing the existing plants, she has been involved in municipal and industrial projects as big as multi billion dollar value remediation and treatment projects for oil refineries, overseas. She served our industry in many capacities from faculty position to process engineer and project manager.
