Earn Professional Development Hours with TLNT Training

Instructor-led engineering courses that count toward your continuing professional development

Professional development is part of every engineering licence in Canada

Each provincial and territorial engineering regulator in Canada expects its licence holders to keep their knowledge current. Most run a continuing professional development (CPD) program that asks members to plan their learning, complete a set number of professional development hours (PDHs) or activities, and report them every year. The rules differ from one regulator to the next, so we have summarized them on one page.

Why engineers train with TLNT

Talented Technology Training Canada (TLNT Training) is a Canadian company that has provided education and training in the engineering, industrial and project management fields since 2004. We are based in Edmonton, Alberta, and train engineers across Canada.

  • Instructor-led training. Our courses are taught by experienced instructors, live online and in the classroom, and we also deliver in-house training at your organization.
  • EIC-authorized CEU provider. TLNT is approved by the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) as an Authorized Provider of Continuing Education Units (CEUs), and the CEUs you earn are registered with the EIC.
  • Technical depth. Courses cover technical engineering topics, project management, certificate programs and P.Eng. exam preparation.

How TLNT course hours count toward your PD hours

Structured courses with a qualified instructor are one of the activity types that Canadian engineering regulators recognize for CPD. In general, you can claim the hours you spend in a TLNT course as professional development hours in your regulator's formal learning or technical category. To make your hours easy to report:

  1. Choose courses that relate to your area of practice or to the learning goals in your CPD plan.
  2. Keep your TLNT certificate of completion and the course details (title, dates and hours). Regulators can ask for proof of your activities during an audit.
  3. Log the course in your regulator's member portal under the right category, with the date, provider (TLNT Training), and hours claimed.
  4. Remember the conversion: one CEU equals ten hours of participation. Some regulators state this directly; for example, the published guidelines of Engineers PEI and Engineers Yukon count one CEU as 10 PDHs.
Each regulator decides which activities and how many hours qualify, and some cap the hours you can claim in a category each year. Please confirm the details with your own regulator before you report.
