This webinar is scheduled for 12 pm MST ( 2 pm EST) for one hour.
Description The present course review the principal of energy and momentum, hydraulic jump including free and submerged jump, It deals with different designs on the hydraulics of weirs and gates. It covers spillway designs including ogee spillway, chute and side channel spillway, siphon spillway, other types of spillways. It covers the design of energy dissipators including the hydraulic jump stilling basin, plunge pools, solid and slotted roller buckets, impact-type energy dissipators, stilling basins and other related hydraulic structures.
Dr. Amir Azimi

Dr.
Amir H. Azimi is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Lakehead
University. He is the founder and
director of the Multiphase Flow Research Laboratory (MFRL) and published many
journal papers in highly ranked journals. His current research is focused on
studying particle dynamics, bubble dynamics, and solid-fluid interaction in
non-Newtonian fluids. His areas of interest include particle-laden fluid
dynamics, sediment transport, river engineering, and hydraulic structures.
Dr. Azimi has more than 25 years of combined academic and industry experience and recently received the Lakehead University Research Excellence and the Merit Awards for his research work. He secured several internal and external research grants from major funding bodies including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC: Discovery Grant, Collaborative Research and Development Grant, and Engage Grants), the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), and the John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF).
He is currently an Associate Editor of the Journal of Fluids Engineering, ASME and the ISH Journal of Hydraulic Engineering. He is also the former Chair of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers – Hydrotechnical Division.
This complimentary one-hour webinar provides engineers with a concise yet comprehensive overview of key hydraulic concepts and design practices. The session will highlight the fundamentals of momentum and energy, review hydraulic jumps in channels and pipes, and explore methods to enhance energy dissipation. Participants will also gain insights into the hydraulics of weirs, gates, and spillways, as well as practical design considerations for roller buckets, trash racks, and energy dissipators. By condensing essential topics into a single session, this webinar offers a valuable professional development opportunity aligned with the continuing education requirements of engineering associations across Canada.
