This course is divided into 2 sessions. Each session will be 6 hours in duration. The sessions will be held on Mar 18-19 - 2027
and will be held again on Jun 28-29  2027
  • Description
The present course review the principal of energy and momentum, hydraulic jump including free and submerged jump, It deals with different designs on the hydraulics of weirs and gates. It covers spillway designs including ogee spillway, chute and side channel spillway, siphon spillway, other types of spillways. It covers the design of energy dissipators including the hydraulic jump stilling basin, plunge pools, solid and slotted roller buckets, impact-type energy dissipators, stilling basins and other related hydraulic structures.

  • Objective
The participant will be familiar with the design of some hydraulic structures and practice the design of spillways, energy dissipators and other related hydraulic structures.

  • Target Audience
The audience of the proposed course are engineers and technologist with proper knowledge in fluid mechanics.

  • Learning Objectives

After you attend this course/workshop, you will be able to:

1) Interpret and analyze basic principles of continuity, energy and momentum in fluid flow dynamics, state of flow classification in open channel systems.

2) Explain the significance of specific energy, specific force, and energy losses in different types of hydraulic structures.

3) Recognize and discuss the design of gates, weirs, and spillways.

4) Classify and discuss different types of water intake structures and energy dissipators.

5) Identify, analyze and design of stilling basins.

6) Identify, select, and design special types of hydraulic structures through group projects and reviewing recent research publications.

  • Special Features
