Microsoft Power BI for Business Intelligence and Engineering management: Data Visualization and Digital Dashboards (1.2 CEUs)
This course is divided into two sessions each session will be 6 hours in duration
This course will be offered in 2027 on the following dates:
Feburary 15-16 & will be offered again in September 13-14 , 2027
Course Description:
This hands-on workshop introduces the role of Microsoft Power BI in Business Intelligence and digital transformation, with a focus on how organizations can leverage data to improve operational performance and decision-making. In today’s data-driven environment, professionals across engineering, management, and business sectors need effective approaches to transform complex data into meaningful insights. This course provides a practical understanding of how modern data visualization and Business Intelligence approaches can be applied to real-world challenges, connecting technical data analysis with organizational goals. Through real examples and practical exercises, participants will explore how interactive reporting solutions can support better communication, performance monitoring, and informed decision-making across different applications.
Objective
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to confidently use Microsoft Power BI to transform raw data into meaningful business insights through interactive dashboards and data visualization. Participants will gain hands-on experience importing, preparing, modeling, and analyzing data, creating professional reports and key performance indicators (KPIs), and applying business intelligence techniques to support data-driven decision-making. They will also develop practical skills to design dynamic digital dashboards that monitor organizational performance.
Target Audience
This course is designed for engineering managers, technologists, technicians, project managers, business professionals, data analysts, operations managers, and anyone interested in developing practical skills in data visualization and business intelligence using Microsoft Power BI. It is particularly valuable for professionals working in engineering, manufacturing, energy, construction, utilities, operations, consulting, and business environments who use data to support decision-making and performance monitoring. No prior experience with Power BI is required. Participants who are familiar with the basics of Microsoft Excel, including working with tables and spreadsheets, will be well prepared to follow the course and successfully apply the concepts and techniques covered in this hands-on workshop.
Level of Course
Basic
Learning Objectives
After you attend this course/workshop, you will be able to:
· Import data from multiple sources and create relationships between datasets and understand fundamental data modeling concepts.
· Design interactive and professional dashboards using a variety of Power BI visualizations.
· Build and apply fundamental DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) measures and calculated columns to support business analysis.
· Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and performance reports for different applications.
· Create dynamic reports with filters, slicers, and interactive features that enhance user experience.
· Analyze and interpret data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improved decision-making.
Apply Business Intelligence principles to solve real-world engineering and business challenges using Power BI.
Special Features
This course is a hands-on workshop focused on practical application rather than traditional theoretical learning. Participants will work with real-world datasets to develop Power BI dashboards, analyze data, apply Business Intelligence techniques, and generate insights to support effective decision-making.
Material(s) Required
Participants should have a laptop with Microsoft Power BI Desktop installed. Power BI Desktop is free and available through Microsoft. Please note that the desktop version is not compatible with Mac computers; some features may be accessed through a web browser, but a Windows-based laptop is recommended for the full hands-on experience.
